At the beginning of March, Dr. Armistead Webster was named Head of School by The Swain School Board of Trustees, effective July 1, 2020. Dr. Webster will succeed current Head of School, Dr. Shannan Boyle Schuster.
These crazy times of quarantine and social distancing have presented both challenges and new opportunities for the Swain community during this transitional period. Dr. Schuster continues to manage Swain’s successful pivot to a virtual learning environment, while strategically planning for the 2020-2021 school year in collaboration with Dr. Webster, anticipating many unknowns due to the COVID-19 health crisis.
While challenging work occurs behind the scenes to prepare Swain for continued success under a variety of scenarios that will best serve our students, others have committed to provide opportunities for the Swain community to get to know our next Head of School until we are able to spend time together on campus.
One of our first grade friends met with Dr. Webster virtually to ask some very important questions. Enjoy this five minute segment in which Spencer gets at topics ranging from pancakes to Dr. Webster’s family!
One of our kindergarten friends played a game of “This or That” virtually with Dr. Webster. The pair found a few items of mutual interest!
Dr. Webster described his feelings about his new appointment in this way, “Swain is a joyful place of learning where teachers know and care about their students. I was struck by the energy, creativity and dedication of the faculty and the vibrant learning environment. I am excited to be coming to Swain as Head of School and look forward to becoming a part of this dynamic community.”
Lori Schoeneman, Trustee Board Chair noted, “We are delighted with the outcome of our search and look forward to welcoming Dr. Webster to the Swain School community. We are confident he will embrace our community’s joy for learning, parent partnerships and collaboration. Armistead is committed to build upon the approach of research-based practices and what is best for children. He is a kind, thoughtful communicator who will continue to lead Swain into the future while honoring the amazing elements that we all love.”
In the coming months, we will be honoring our AMAZING eighth graders as they prepare to enter high school, celebrating Dr. Schuster’s AMAZING legacy, and welcoming Dr. Webster to lead our next AMAZING chapter as a community. Surely, it is a time in the life of Swain when we can Expect Amazing!
